'Who's there?', I asked, half expecting no answer. The doorknob made a noise, but the deadbolt could stop nearly any entry. There was no response to my question, and the knocking stopped. I could hear footsteps going down the stairs. Then, some voices. And then, silence. I waited at least twenty minutes before opening the door. The hallway was empty. No package, no letter, no note. Nothing.
The next day there was more knocking, and more questions. More emptiness and more silence. After three days, the knocking stopped and the phone rang. There was no answer on the other end.
Becoming invisible was no easy task. The persistence of others to assure purpose was apparent. I drew the covers over my head, and went back into a dream.
