It is time to create a home away from home for first time college students. Whether you are rushing get things together in the few weeks before school starts, are are thinking ahead for next year, this list will help you make sure your college student sleeps well away from hom Here are the basic bedding needs for your college student.
Matress Pad: Dorm beds are just one grade above standard prison issue in the comfort department. To, you are going to need to add a layer of comfort to the dorm bed with a foam mattress pad or feather bed. Spend some time looking at reviews and testing and feeling mattress pads before buying.
Mattress protector: Bed bugs are a big deal these days. You want a bed bag you can put the mattress into and zip up to prevent an cooties (real or imaginary) from keeping your student awake night.
Sheets: Two or three sets of extra long sheets are recommended for the typical dorm bed. I have found that standard twin sheets will also fit these beds, though tightly. For ease of making the bed, you student may want to consider using full or queen size flat sheets; one to tuck around mattress, and one to use as the top sheet.
Blankets: A few lightweight blankets may be better than one big, hot comforter. Just like when dressing in cold weather, many layers hold more heat and can easily be shed for maximum comfort level. A combination of flannel sheet, thermal blankets, and fleece throws will provide maximum comfort.
Comforter: Comforters are to look at, but difficult to wash in a standard machine. If you prefer a comforter, consider a duvet cover that can be removed and washed. Alternatively, a bed coverlet (or bedspread) will give the bed a more tailored look.
Pillows: You can't have enough pillows for a dorm bed because it will also double as a sofa or study space. A backrest pillow, a couple of sleeping pillows, and a few decorative pillows will make their bed useful for day and night time use.
