Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corp. Gets More Water to Trees in Clinton Hill and Fort Greene

The Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corp. is still at it, some 40 years after Robert F. Kennedy introduced legislation that offered it financial support. Sidewalks buckled around growing trees along Washington Avenue were recently removed, making more room for rainwater and water runoff to saturate the soil and water the trees, rather than traveling through the city's drainage system and into the perpetually filthy Gowanus Canal.

Recently, a video that showed heavy rain runoff and raw sewage inundating the Gowanus Canal after a heavy rainstorm went viral. While residents, the City of New York, the president and Congress are all aware of the decades-long rain and raw-sewage runoff problem in the Gowanus Canal, little has been done about it. Although it may seem like a small thing, what Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corp. did miles upstream from the Gowanus Canal isn't going unnoticed, that's for sure.
