Bedroom Claustrophobic Nightmare: The Decorators Are Circling

Heather Dekin
Four rectangular walls
Locking out the harsh sun light
The side effects of global warming
at its environmentally worst
Burning a hole into the sidewalk
And the skin of all that travel by
Protected by an oak wooden door
Lathered in newly arrived dust bunnies
No amount of Pledge can eradicate
Once that door is sealed shut
With the help of excessive bedroom furniture
Just the way that its inhabitant loves it
There is some space to roam around
like a grazing cow munching on fresh green grass
Very cliche but calming when listening to Madonna tunes
Been accused by neighbors for staying too long in those four walls
Like a prisoner serving a life sentence for a crime of laziness
Surveying the damage of years of wear and tear on the faded mauve carpet
Stretch marks that only gave birth to a perpetual bedroom potato
The resident interior decorator already making pencil sketches of the layout
With most of the personal items being locked away in boxes
Shoved into the basement with this week's trash and the recycling
Forced to zero in on thoughts of a large U-Haul taking all the excess away
To a spacious condo where there is only one resident
And more than four walls of comfort and storage
Where there will be no more mauve carpets or pink of any kind
A new era of interior decorating that no one could judge
Since they did not have any part of it in the first place
The way it should be.
