Bedroom Decorating Ideas for a Kid's Small Bedroom

Use These Bedroom Decorating Ideas to Organize and Decorate Your Child's Small Bedroom

Kristy Martz
Kids have an amazing amount of stuff. Fit all of a child's belongings into her bedroom by efficiently using the available space and coming up with some creative bedroom decorating ideas. Use these bedroom decorating ideas to declutter and beautify your child's small bedroom.

Bedroom Decorating Ideas for the Closet

Use the space in your child's closet to put up shelves. Use bins or baskets to store toys, shoes, books and games. All of these items can be stored in the closet underneath the clothes rack. This will save space in the bedroom itself. You won't need a large toy box to keep the bedroom clean and organized.

Bedroom Decorating Ideas for Paint

Let your child pick the color he wants, but you pick the shade. If she likes green, you can choose everything from dark forest green to a light mint green. It's okay to use some darker paint colors, but lighter shades usually work the best in a child's bedroom.

Floor Covering Ideas for a Kid's Bedroom

Everything in a small bedroom needs to be well thought out. Choose a dual purpose area rug. You can purchase inexpensive rugs that double as a roadway for toy cars or a garden path for ponies. My daughter loves her pony rug. It serves as a toy and also keeps her toes from getting cold on the hardwood floors.

Lighting Bedroom Decorating Ideas

Small children want a night light. Purchase a plug-in night light and do away with decorative lamps. Lamps may look nice, but they take up valuable space in a small bedroom. Instead of a lamp, your child could store toys, book, or shoes on top of his dresser.

Bedroom Decorating Ideas for Storage

There never seems to be enough room for all of the items children accumulate. Keep your child from shoving everything under the bed by using that space for storage. Invest in some under-the-bed storage containers and keep winter coats and boots out of the closet during the summer.

Furniture for a Kid's Small Bedroom

Keep the double bed out of a small bedroom. A twin bed has plenty of room for a single child. If two children are sharing the bedroom, put up bunk beds. Just make sure you have a railing in place on the top bunk.

Bedroom Decorating Ideas for Playing Make Believe

A small bedroom doesn't have enough room for a toy kitchen or tool bench. Encourage your child's creativity by painting these on the wall. You don't have to be an expert artist. If your child is old enough, they can even help. Put up a shelf nearby with toy plates or tools so that your child can enjoy their new "toy".

With a little creativity and organization, you can come up with bedroom decorating ideas that will work in your kid's small bedroom. Include your child in on the brainstorming session. You might be surprised at the great bedroom decorating ideas children can come up with!

Super ideas and ones that can be used in many small rooms (saw your master bedroom piece, too). Forwarding it to a son who has a very small 2 bedroom apartment. By the way, congrats on winning a best New Source Award, saw the announcement :)

Those were great ideas! I loved the one about painting a kitchen or tool chest on the wall. I never would have thought of that. Great article!
