The bedroom is the one room in a house where we need to find comfor and peace. When getting up in the morning, we need to be in a room that is light and sunny. To get this effect, the window panes must be as clean as possible.
Cleaning windows is not a difficult procedure, but will require you to reserve some time for it from your weekend schedule. You will generally require the following tools and materials to clean your window properly.
- Two fair sized pieces clean, soft cloth, preferably cotton, as synthetic fibers will not clean as well. If you can get it cheaply, chamois would be ideal, but is generally very costly to obtain.
- Some ordinary soap for removing grime. You can use a detergent instead of soap as soap can leave unsightly whitish marks when drying.
- Some old newspapers. The best to use are the ones make from pulp.
- A bucket of clean water. There must be sufficient water for the size of glass that must be cleaned, as you will not want to finish off cleaning some panes with dirty water.
- A soft brush.
The first order of business is to remove all the dust from the glass using the brush. After the brushing is done, add some detergent into the water. Use more detergent if the windows are very grimy or if the area you live in is near a sooty industrial complex or busy road. Instead of the detergent, you can apply soap to the cloth dipped in the water provided.Wipe the each pane several times to clean off all the dirt. The cloth must be very wet, but not to the point of the soap or detergent solution dripping. Once you have cleaned the dirt off the glass, dip the second cloth in clean water and wring. The cloth should be damp but not too wet.Wipe over all the glass areas removing any soap or detergent streaks that you can see.
Once the glass is wiped down, use the newsprint. Wipe all over the glass. This will remove any soap traces that may have been left behind by the damp cloth. The newsprint may leave a little fluff which you can wipe off using the damp cloth.
This should leave your windows sparkling clean for a few hours or days. For those living near busy roads or downwind from industrial complexes, the dirt may return in a very short time and will require cleaning frequently. In general, window panes should be cleaned at least once a week to make them remain clear of unsightly dirt.
