Bedtime

B.Holmes
Mother's weary from daily chores,
night has fallen beyond the doors.
Time for bath then on to bed,
yet first a story must be read.

"Mama wait I need a hug,
now tuck me in so I'll be snug.
Oh come back please I need a drink,
just run down quick to the sink.

Don't touch the switch I need the light,
darkness gives me such a fright!
Another kiss before I sleep,
and find Teddy for me to keep."

Across the house Mother now can rest,
her babe's soundly in the nest.
Quiet all there's not a word,
when suddenly a noise is heard.

In the shadow a child stands,
with a teddy in his hand.
"Mama please let us play,
I'm not ready to end this day!"
