What can you do?

Start with safe preparation of fresh and frozen ground beef. Wash hands with warm, soapy water for at least twenty seconds before and after touching raw meat or poultry. Thoroughly wash anything that touched the raw meat, cutting boards, utensils, dishes, in hot soapy water. Keep raw meat, fish and poultry away from other food. Use separate cutting board for raw meat, poultry and egg products, vegetables, fish, and cooked foods.

Only eat ground beef or ground beef patties cooked to a safe "internal temperature of 160o F," color is not a reliable way to tell if ground beef or ground beef patties have been cooked to a high enough temperature to kill harmful bacteria such as E.coli 0157:H7.

Refrigerate raw meat, poultry and fish as soon as possible, within two hours after purchase or one hour if temperatures are 90o F or higher. Always, refrigerate cooked meat and poultry within two hours after cooking.

Check your freezer and meat labels, if you identify any recalled ground beef products remove it from your freezer immediately and return it to the store you purchased it at for full reimbursement.

Consumers can contact Fairbanks Farms' toll-free consumer hot line at 1-877-546-0122 daily between the hours of 8 a. m. and 5 p. m EST (eastern standard time). If you have any medical concerns, do not hesitate, contact a physician immediately.
