Beef Stew Recipe for Company

Sunshine Wilson
Here is a delicious beef stew recipe to prepare when company is coming over for dinner. It is an easy recipe, but it does take a lot of time to get all the ingredients ready. This beef stew recipe will serve about six or seven people. If you need more, just increase the recipe accordingly. Refrigerate leftovers to be reheated when needed.

Beef Stew Recipe For Company

Ingredients:

2 1/2 Pounds Beef Stew Meat, cut into large cubes

(use either beef round, sirloin or chuck)

1/2 Cup Flour

2 Tablespoons Olive Oil

5 Cups Water

1 Can Beef Broth

6 Small Red Potatoes, cut into medium cubes

4 Carrots, thickly sliced

8 Mushrooms, thickly sliced

1 Turnip, cut into cubes

1 Celery Stalk, thickly sliced

1 Medium Onion, cut into medium pieces

1/4 Teaspoon Rosemary

1/4 Teaspoon Oregano

1/4 Teaspoon Thyme

1 Bay Leaf

Salt

Pepper

Directions:

Mix the flour and beef together so that the beef is coated. Pour the olive oil into a skillet pan. Add the beef and brown completely. Pour the water and beef broth into a medium or large pot. Add the browned beef and the drippings from the skillet pan to the pot. Heat over medium heat until boiling. Reduce the heat and cover the pot. Simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. (Get all the vegetables prepared while this is cooking.) Add the potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, turnip, celery, onion and spices. Simmer again for about 45 minutes until vegetables are cooked. If the beef stew looks too watery, mix up about 1/2 water with one or two tablespoons of flour. Heat this mixture in the microwave for about two minutes. Add to the beef stew. Turn down the heat really low on the stove and keep it covered until ready to serve.
