Been Snipe Hunting Lately?

What is a snipe? It's a furry animal that can be anywhere from the size of a rat to the size of a dog (or even bigger and sometimes smaller than a rat).

Where do you find a snipe? Mostly in the woods, but basically anywhere.

Do you need a gun? No. Snipes are very friendly. They love to be held and petted.

Why hunt for them? Because it's a whole lot of fun.

Are they hard to find? Not really if you know where to look. (I'll tell you a secret. They're down by the (whatever).)

Do you have to be a certain age to hunt them? No, although it is not recommended for anyone under thirteen.

What do you do with one once you find one? Hold it, pet it, coo over it.

Can you keep one as a pet? It's not recommended. They can turn ugly if penned up.

How long does it take to find one? Not long if you know where to look.

Can anyone hunt them? No. Only smart people because snipes can sense stupid people.

Okay. Webster describes a snipe as (1) a bird related to the sandpiper family or (2) a contemptible person. However, that is not what is called a snipe in this area. If I were to answer the questions above honestly, and I'll tell you why later, here's what the answers would be:

What is a snipe? Anything your imagination wants it to be.

Where do you find a snipe? Nowhere, but you can be sent to look anywhere.

Do you need a gun? No.

Why hunt them? Because it's a whole lot of fun for the persons (or person) who send(s) you.

Do you have to be a certain age to hunt them? I wouldn't send anyone who might get lost.

What do you do with one once you find one? Believe me, you won't find one.

Can you keep one as a pet? I suppose you can in your imagination.

How long does it take to find one? You will look until either you get tired or the person(s) who sent you tell(s) you the truth.

Can anyone hunt them? Usually young men and women or newcomers to the area fall for this.

Snipe hunting in this area is a big joke to see who will fall for it and hunt for something that does not exists. While the "hunters" are out looking for a "snipe" the person(s) who sent them is sitting in the house laughing their rear end(s) off. Sometimes the senders will join the hunt just for the fun of it. If a guy has his eye on a gal this may give him the opportunity to get her away from the group to get to know her better and let her know he is interested. All and all, it's just for the fun of it.
