Been There, Done That

Jaded

I tried to sit here silently and allow for time to pass
But as the years have gone too quickly
And I've all but lost out on me
I find myself resenting what could have been
Look at me
I'm wasting away
Listen to me
Can you hear me?
I've been here before
I've ridden in this seat
It's all just too familiar
Just a little worn around the edges

Been there, done that
Survived it once, but not again
Been there, done that

I tried to change up the ingredients
Remake the pie into a drink
But that's not how things work 'round here
I took some puzzle pieces and tried to write a song
But cardboard only makes one tune

Been there, done that
Survived it once, but not again
Been there, done that

I took your shoes out of the closet
Slipped them on my feet
Snuck a glance into the mirror
But still all I saw was me
Realized that in order
To understand the you you are
I'll have to put your suit on
Maybe drive 'round in your car

Wait, no, that's not right...

Been there, done that
Survived it once, but not again
Been there, done that

You've driven me slightly crazy
With your lack of fortitude
And care and understanding
Did I mention understanding?
The way it works is this:
Treat me like I'm someone
Maybe the only one
Like I matter and the words I say
Light up this room
Put yourself in my position
And see what you've been missin'
And please, good lord, quit saying to me,

"Been there, done that"
