Beer Can Coffin

America is finally following the newer popular global fads in coffin building. Bill Bramanti, a 67-year-old from South Chicago Heights, Ill has ordered a coffin from Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home in Chicago Heights that is in the shape of a Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer can according to an Associated Press Article.

Bramanti crawled into his pretty red, white, and blue aluminum coffin that Scott Sign Co. of Chicago Heights. Ill helped to create and it seems to fit fine according to Bramanti himself. With an obvious sense of humor showing, not long back Bramanti filled his coffin with ice and party drinks for his friends to show off his new fangled version of a traditional forever home.

Coffins shaped like treasured belongings or items mimicking the personality of a coffin owner are not a new idea. A few years back, the singing group KISS offered a licensed Kiss Kasket for sale to their fans on their web-site, but it is no longer available today. Other interesting coffin designs have come in the shape of airplanes, cars, and fanciful items from Africa as a part of their internet sales items. Vic Fearn and Company of England has also been making some fun sounding coffins according to a February 2008, CityNews.ca article. This coffin maker has created a gym bag, ballet shoe, specialty airplane, giant electric guitar, skateboard container, one really cool looking egg, and of course a beer can or two and also the shape of an industrial garbage bin.

In my opinion, perhaps Bill Bramanti has a nice idea in using his beer can coffin as a party cooler that his friends can all enjoy before he takes it with him someday. With the cost of coffins being so high for the traditional pieces of ornately carved furniture that we set in the ground to decompose, it might be nice if we could use and enjoy them while alive for a little bit.

My friends completely understand that I have an offbeat sense of humor and probably wouldn't mind at all if I had my coffin made into a luxury cruise liner, harbored in some sunny location - with maybe a little folding palm tree or two, with exact deck replicas of art, food, and some tiny girls in bikini's for the guys. I could even have one cute little ship rat sitting on the railing with a kitty waiting to pounce while I finally get to sail away on my elusive vacation.
