Beer and More Work

Do What You Love and You'll Never Work Again

Beer and More Work

Some people say that to find work that isn't work, find a job you love.

It is clear which brewers love their jobs. The beer tastes brighter, cleaner, like it was made with love. Making beer with love, however, would violate German brewing purity laws - Reinheitsgebot -- that restrict beer content to water, grains, hops and yeast.

I recently took a job to work with products that I love, including beer. However, the job didn't just involve product; sometimes people and 'office politics' get in the way.

So it goes.

In the process the strain and strife, the trials and tribulations took my concentration off of something else I love to do: write. My buddy Dean could always tell when my eye came off the ball.

It feels good to be back.

Pairing beer and work, today after punching out for the last time, I decided to drink a few Belhaven Scottish Ales. Chicago area breweries haven't seemed to embrace the Scottish Ale style. A notable exception is Three Floyd'sRobert the Bruce, a tremendous beer, big and sweet to the finish.

A work-a-day beer, a session ale or lager, is indispensable. Two Brother's Long Haul is delicious and bright. Emmett's Ale House's Pre-Prohibition Ale is just right.
