Beer Summit with President Obama, Officer Crowley, and Professor Gates: What Difference Does it Make on What Beer They Drank!

Roy A. Barnes
July 30 Beer Summit with President Obama, Officer Crowley, and Professor Gates is creating controversy over the choice of beers by the participants. For instance, The Swamp is reporting some gripes from a documentary film maker Anat Brown (who made Beer Wars) over the choice of President Obama for the beer summit, whining because his choice wasn't a local brewer. My reaction: who cares, which is why I won't mention the names of the beers chosen by President Obama, Officer Crowley, and Professor Gates because I won't give shameful promotion to those companies in this article! These men didn't have a beer summit to promote any particular beer. After all the media scrutiny and comments and controversy about the arrest of Professor Gates, those three have a right to choose whatever beer they want. I heard on Larry King Live Thursday night that their meeting was cordial, and they have agreed to disagree, while hearing each other out. So it's a start.

How dare beer fans try to use an event attempting to bring back more racial harmony for the attempted promotion of their favorite brands of booze! True, by stating what beers would be served, it will promote those beers, but that's really a secondary point, and people should've realized this.

More About the July 30 Beer Summit with President Obama, Officer Crowley, and Professor Gates: Beer Doesn't Matter Here!

Again, what matters is that Officer Crowley and Professor Gates at least have started a civil dialogue. You know, they may just cross paths again around Harvard Yard, so with this face to face beer summit meeting with President Obama, there's a better chance that next time things will be much more pleasant. What if Officer Crowley stops a car driven by Professor Gates? That would be something. Will he give him a ticket or just a warning? What if there is another call to Professor Gates' house, and Officer Crowley happens to be the one who takes the call?

If I ever get to go to a beer summit with President Obama, I will ask for a beer all right: the most bitter tasting root beer that's available or a non-alcoholic beer would suit me fine!

What else does the world want to discuss? The issue important, the beer I think not.

I can't believe how blown out of proportion this incident got.

I apologize. The filmmaker's name is Anat BARON. I kept reading it as "Brown" through the final draft, and once this article was published, low and behold I "saw" that it was BARON.
