Beginner Friendly Quick Knit Soap Saver Free Pattern

Another Twist on the Traditional Beginner Dishcloth Project

Soap savers are popular, and for good reason. By storing your bath soap inside the scrubbie itself, the entire bar gets used. You can save some money on bath supplies by making the most of every bar this way. Say goodbye to those useless, tiny leftover soap slivers!

This cool bath accessory is simple to knit. Its texture is perfect for gentle exfoliation. If you want an even gentler texture, check the end of the pattern for alternative directions.

Toss your empty scrubbie and some color safe bleach into the wash with like-colored towels, then hang up in the shower to dry.

Materials:

Yarn needle
One 2.5 ounce ball of 4 ply cotton yarn (is more than enough to complete several of these!)
Size 6 knitting needles
Scissors

Gauge:

5 stitches by 8 rows = 1 square inch

Finished Measurements
:
5 inches tall, 3.5 inches wide

Directions:

Cast on 32 stitches.

Row 1-40 Knit each stitch across.

Row 41 Cast off, knit wise. Leaving 1.5 yards of yarn attached for sewing, finish off.

Finishing:

Thread the yarn needle with the attached thread. Fold the piece in half, right to left. Being sure to keep the edges lined up, sew the sides together with a basic whipstitch. At the corner, continue sewing across the bottom. Leaving 3 inches of yarn attached, fasten off the thread. Weave the loose yarn ends into the piece.

Drawstring:

Cut a 1 yard piece of yarn and thread you needle one last time. Locate the center of the top, nearest the opening. Working under the top knit row --the row under the cast off row -- weave the drawstring evenly around the piece's top.

Draw the ends together, making sure they're even. Tie a simple bow. Trim the yarn ends, leaving 5.5 inches. Tie a simple knot at the end of each to keep them from unraveling.

That's it. You've completed a beginning level knitting project that isn't (exactly) a dishcloth!

Alternative Directions for a Smoother Texture:

Cast on 32 stitches.

Row 1: Knit each stitch across.

Row 2: Purl each stitch across.

Rows 3-40 Repeat rows 1 and 2.

Row 41 Cast off, knit wise. Leaving 1.5 yards of yarn attached for sewing, finish off.

Complete the rest of the project as written.
