Online shopping allows users to purchase products from the click of a mouse. But how safe is it? Here are some tips for a safe online shopping experience.

Trusted Site: Purchase through websites that are well established and are very popular. The chances of these websites cheating are almost 0%. Also if you are buying a online product of an established in-store seller, search for their name in Google (or some other search engine) and you can notice if the website you are in is the same as the one that is listed in the results page. Be careful and look out for what is called clones. They may have the exact resemblance of the original website, expect a small change in the web address. These clones may be hard to spot, but are usually eliminated by the original company to avoid losing its customers.

Encrypted payment: Most sites or almost all online shopping sites allow customers to make credit card payment through an encrypted SSL page. This can be identified by the fact that these pages will start with a 'https' instead of a 'http'. This kind of system will send the information as an encrypted text which can only be deciphered by the company's server. This would prevent the confidential information from being hacked by hackers. Make sure that the page says it is encrypted.

Seller review: Do not trust the sellers based on the reviews or testimonial provided on their page. In case of fraudulent sellers, you will definitely find misleading information. The best was is to search for reviews of that company using a search engine like Google. Spend some time to make sure you are able to find a good number of reviews. After fining reviews, make sure they do not follow a definite pattern, Sometime fraudulent sellers go to the extent of going to other websites and writing reviews about their own website.

This will also be misleading. But they will sometime leave a hidden trail in the fact that all their reviews will look the same and all the user ids used for the reviews will follow a definite pattern which can be easily spotted on careful observation. The best way to eliminate this factor is to look for editor reviews where internet watchers or watch dogs as they are usually referred to would review online shopping websites. This can provide credible information.

Purchase terms: If you are purchasing perishable goods, make sure to read the sellers Terms and Conditions. A bad seller will have the terms and conditions designed in a way that it they will have to face legal liabilities. Established brands or genuine sellers will also have some disclaimers, but they will not have too much detail about the product not functioning. If a sites disclaimer claims no legal liabilities even for malfunctioning products, they are probably reseller or sell fraudulent items.

Though all the above steps will try to ensure that the users can have a smooth shopping experience, it all rests on the users perception of seeing things. If you are new to online shopping, it is always better to refer to someone who has some good knowledge and experience about this field.
