Beginners Guide to Lawn Care - Mowing

To have a great lawn you have to mow your grass and in some areas it is mandatory or you will receive a fine. The problem is that many people are unaware of the correct way to mow their lawns or that they should pay close attention to their lawn care. Mowing your grass incorrectly can cause severe damage to your lawn.

You should only need to mow your lawn once a week and twice in the spring. Find out what type of grass you have, even if you have to take a clipping to your local nursery (in a zip lock bag) and have them identify the grass for you. Identifying your grass is a must if you want to care for it the proper way.

Once you know what type of grass you have, research the correct height it should be mowed at. Mowing with the blade of the lawn mower to high will not achieve a good cut and mowing with the blade to low will damage your grass.

Pay attention to your lawn mower and make sure that the blades are always sharp before you mow. If the lawn mower blades are dull they will produce jagged edges as they rip the grass instead of cutting it and that is a perfect way for you lawn to catch diseases.

Do not develop a mowing pattern for you lawn. What this means is that you should never in the same direction all the time, every time you mow. A mowing pattern can cause your lawn to lean in one direction. Move around and mow in all different directions to prevent leaning.

Beginners Guide to Lawn Care - Watering

One of the best ways to water your lawn, especially if you have a large lawn is to have a sprinkler system. One that is setup with a timer. However, even if you do not have a sprinkler system for your lawn you should always find out what days you can water on because different areas have different watering days and you should try to keep watering done early in the morning. Do not water every day. You can get a fine from the city and you can cause plants and lawn diseases.

Beginners Guide to Lawn Care - Fertilizing

The top things that you need to know about fertilizing is what fertilizer you need, when to fertilize and how to fertilize. With this information, your lawn should be well fed year round.

Beginners Guide to Lawn Care - Weeds

It does not matter how much care you put into your lawn. Eventually, you will begin to see weeds popping up in your yard. A lot of people will run to buy chemicals to take care of the problem but this can harm beneficial pests and other good stuff in your lawn. Try to keep on top of weeds and pull them up by hand whenever you see one, instead of waiting for it to become a big problem later on.

The editor really needs to get on the ball. Good information, but crappy writing.
