Spin Jump - The spin jump utilizes the motion sensor technology of the Wii. Mario will spin jump whenever the Wii remote is shaken up and down. While wearing a propeller suit, this will cause Mario to briefly fly up and when Mario can throw fireballs or iceballs this will cause Mario to fire in both directions. This ability can be used while Mario is grounded or in the air.
Double Jump / Triple Jump - While running (by holding the 1 button), Mario can complete a double jump by hitting the 2 button precisely when Mario lands from a normal jump. This will become a triple jump if the 2 button is hit precisely when Mario lands from a double jump.
Ground Pound - By pressing down on the control pad when Mario is jumping, he will pound the ground. If done over a block, any item in the block will fall from the bottom of the block.
Wall Jump - Mario can jump off of a wall by pressing the jump button (2) and pressing the opposite direction on the control pad as the wall at the same time. Mario can repeatedly wall jump between two walls to get to high locations.
Grab and Throw - Mario can lift a shell by pressing the 2 button while next to it. Releasing the 2 button will throw the shell away from Mario. This can be dangerous because moving shells can injure Mario.
Lift and Throw - Mario can lift object, frozen enemies, or other characters by holding down the 2 button while next to the object and shaking the controller. Mario will throw the object when the 2 button is released. Characters held like this can free themselves by performing a spin jump.
Control a Tilt Lift - Tilt lifts are another game feature that uses the motion sensing technology. When Mario jumps on a tilt lift, the angle of the lift is controlled by the angle at which the controller is held. Mario can still move while tilting the lift, but if he jumps off the lift, control of the lift is lost.
Climb Fences - Mario will climb a fence if up is pressed on the control pad while Mario is in front of a fence. Mario can even start climbing while in the middle of a jump. Pressing the 1 button will punch an enemy on the opposite side of the fence as Mario or cause a fence door to spin, moving Mario to the other side of the fence. Pressing the 2 button will cause Mario to release from the fence.
Throw Fireball / Throw Iceball - After Mario touches an ice flower or a fire flower, he can throw iceballs or fireballs (as appropriate). This is performed by pressing the 2 button.
Belly Slide - While Mario is wearing a penguin suit, he can perform a belly slide. This will cause Mario to slide through enemies undamaged, break blocks, and slide over the top of water. To perform this move, press the down button on the control pad while Mario is on a slope or running.
Yoshi Moves - While riding a Yoshi, Mario can perform a number of new moves. Pressing the 2 button will cause Yoshi to stick out his tongue. Yoshi can eat most enemies, objects, and characters in the game. Yoshi swallows most things he eats, but stores some in his mouth. Pressing 2 a second time will cause Yoshi to something he has stored in his mouth. While jumping, continuing to hold the 1 button will cause Yoshi to stop falling halfway through his first jump and gain about another half screen of distance and height. Finally, Mario can perform a spin jump to get off of Yoshi's back.
The New Super Mario Bros. Wii game is not an easy game and Mario will need all of his new moves in order to once again rescue the Princess. This guide is just a primer for the basic abilities in the game. Defeating the game requires combining multiple moves while avoiding dangerous obstacles and often with precise timing. Only then can Mario finally defeat Bowser again.
