Whether you have lost a job, fear a layoff in the future, or whose household feels the pressure due to the economy it never hurts to find new ways to make money. I had always heard people can earn money using the internet from home. There are a variety of ways to do this ranging from online survey sites to freelance writing jobs that pay. A year ago I began a little project to see if in fact a person could earn online without spending a dime out of pocket. My focus was on online survey sites and social networking sites that pay.

First off no one becomes rich from online earnings and it takes time to find reputable sites that live up to their words. But with these simple tips a beginner can have a foot in the door to online earnings saving a lot of time. The forms of payments and payment methods vary from each site. The payments can be in cash, gift cards, products/prizes, and vouchers to use in a store locally or for an online retailer. Depending on your lifestyle and the amount of time committed there are ways the internet can help add a little extra cash in the bank account.

Survey Sites

Depending on the demographics, or household information, you may add up points or cash steadily through answering online surveys. These surveys usually last anywhere from 15-20 minutes and some payouts range from $3-20. Generally you will be invited by email to participate so checking your email account often is highly suggested. The household information asked at the beginning of the survey invites will determine if you qualify to participate in the actual paid survey.

Word of warning this route may take awhile to gain extra income so you should join several legitimate sites. But the other good thing is sometimes they send products to evaluate or give a peek as to what will be on the market soon allowing consumers to voice their opinions. All of these sites require strict confidentiality when it comes to product testing.

Social Networking Sites (PTP)

Basically after registering with the site they pay members to participate. Participation includes voicing personal thoughts and asking questions. These are also helpful in a beginner's search for finding other survey sites and ways to earn online. Generally the payment is through Paypal or Alertpay, online payment processing, the easy and fast way to receive payments from online earnings. With PTP sites you are paid for the amount of activity generated through discussions, either by posting topics yourself or responding to other posts, and referring members. The payments are processed when the minimum cash out is reached which is usually as low as $10, but it depends on the site, and automatically transferred to Paypal or Alertpay accounts.

But watch out, because most have very strict rules about spamming people and using their sites as a dumping ground for people who are looking just to refer others for other online earning sites. They want active members who are using their sites appropriately. So make sure to read the FAQ section. It's fun to take part in the discussions and learn new things.

Advertising

There are ways to maximize online earnings by joining certain search engine sites that pays people to have a search engine and advertisements on their website. Basically it boils down the amount of traffic (or visitors) to your website, how many people click on the ads and use the search engine. It is highly suggested to read the FAQ section with each program which will have tips and explanations of their services.

Another form of advertisement to help gain referrals is by posting banners to survey sites and social networking sites on your own website. Once a person clicks on the banner or link they are routed to the registration page to sign up. You get the credit for referring them.

Both of these are slow ways to gain income so don't be surprised if it takes awhile to earn this way. It all depends on the amount of traffic your website creates and the amount of people who actually follow the links.

So, you may be wondering at this point what the whole referral thing means to online earnings. It's simple, most survey sites and social networking sites want more traffic themselves. So they pay their members for creating more members to their sites. Usually on the PTP sites you get a percentage based upon referrals activity level and the survey sites will award points to your account for new member signups. Make sure you encourage them to participate. Just make sure you do not spam people for invites, because you can quickly be kicked out of sites. Every site has a FAQ section to answer questions or you can contact them.

Everyday there are new sites popping up and it may take some time to find the site that fits your lifestyle. You will not become a millionaire by earning online this way, but a little extra cash never hurts anyone. So go ahead and give it a try. My little project has helped me not only earn a little here and there, but I have met some interesting people and learned a thing or two about myself in the process.
