Clothing - This sport is much like other hunting sports, clothing-wise. You must have a good set of boots (preferably camouflage). You are not going to be in the nicest of environments, so it is advisable to wear some waterproof boots. Any coat will do, so long as it is warm and allows for movement. What is really necessary is the vest you choose to wear. This must be highly visible so everyone around you can see it. You do not want to accidentally get shot by another hunter because you were camouflaged too well. Any orange vest or jacket will do for this. Also, a pair of binoculars is advisable. This is so you can actually find the quails you are hunting for!
Other Gear - Other than clothing, there are a few things to keep in mind to bring along with you. Most quail hunters bring dogs along with them on their hunt. This is to aide you in hunting the quail. They are there to point out where the quails are so you have a better chance of killing them. On a side note, never aim the gun directly horizontal to the ground to shoot because you are endangering the life of the hunting dogs. Another key piece of gear you must bring is the gun, obviously. Most any shotgun will work for this sport., but the barrel length is what is the most important for hunting quail. The shorter the length, the better. This allows for an easier attempt at shooting and successfully hitting the bird. Although the gun is probably the most important item to bring, it is not too specific on which shotgun is preferred.
Common Areas to Hunt - There are many places to hunt quail in the United States. Ranging from California all the way to the Southeast, quails can be found quite easily. Obviously forests are the best place to find quail and it is advisable to ask around your local community to find the most premier places to hunt. In general though, the southeast area around Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi are the best places to hunt for quail.
