Behind the Words

Phebe A. Durand
His lips lingered
Only seconds away from mine
And he stared at me -
I thought ...
What about the things he said?
What about when he said
IT'S OVER

If he were leaving me ...
I wish he'd just leave.
If he still loves me ...
I need for him
To just tell me so.

One question - and one only -
He asks:
"Why do you still want me?"
How can I say -
I love you greater than
Earth loves Sun.
I want you more than
Night wants Day.
I'll wait for you longer than
A sinner waits for
Salvation.

Michael -- Thank you. You honestly gave me my own twist to think about ... *nods*

Most sinners don't know they need salvation. Unusual twist of the parts there, Phebe - why you, sinner and he, salvation? Seems you could/would freely give the salvation - if only he could/would recognize he were the sinner. Many times, the damned think they're 'on the way up,' getting fitted for angel wings - even as the flames lick around their toes.... Only the Best, Michael
