Labeling is something that goes on at all times. As soon as you look at someone, your brain automatically puts a label on them. No matter if you mean to or not, you judge them and get a sense of what they are like by their appearance. The major downside to this is that a lot of people's appearance are misleading to who they actually are on the inside.
I am a good example of this. With long hair, and an iffy fashion sense, a lot of people judge me to be (for example: a punk, un-intelligent, weird) or even worse they label me to be (for example: emo, scene, goth). Believe it or not, I am a smart, young person with a lot of potential. I don't associate myself with any labels, nor do I try to fit into any labels. I am myself, and that's it. Trying to be something you're not, in my opinion, is considered lying and is one of the most degrading things you can do to your true self.
What I aim to be in society is an achieving, giving, and loving person that teaches others to be themselves no matter how much other people put you down; and no matter how much you are urged to shape yourself into something that is acceptable by society's standards.
I looked up "society" on Dictionary.com and this is what I found:
A group of humans broadly distinguished from other groups by mutual interests, participation in characteristic relationships, shared institutions, and a common culture.
Athough this is a widely accepted definition, I completely refuse to accept it. I believe that society is composed of all humans, not just a group of humans that have a common culture. If my definition was the real definition then everyone would be acceptable.
No one should be judged by their skin tone, race, religion, culture, etc. etc. They should instead be judged by whether they are true to themself.
If you took the time to read this, please acknowledge and heed my opinion. With your help, we can change the future for the better, we can make a difference. Everyone is acceptable in my society, why can't you say the same?
