Being Black in America CNN Special

Now What Did You Really Think About It?

SUPREME ENTERTAINMENT VOLUME 48 PRESENTS:

BEING BLACK IN AMERICA CNN SPECIAL (And what Black folks really thought about it)!!

By now I'm sure everyone had a chance to see, listen to or hear about the special CNN did last week called "Being Black in America"! They had a 3 part series showing different aspects of the type of lifestyle, issues, situations and circumstances Black people go through in this country. They explored an assortment of different issues, from the single parent epidemic in the Black community and how it effects our children due to a growing lack of Fathers in the household taking care of their children, to the impact that sex & violence has on Hip-Hop music, art & culture and hence Black youth, to the negative depiction of African Amercian males in the news & media!

But was it really accurate? And more importantly, did the segments really break down enough of what is really going on in the Black life experience within this country and more importantly is anything being done to punish those responsible in the positions of power who treat, misuse and abuse Blacks and people of color through racist institutions in place in this country? And since Black people already know what it is like to live in this country, this seems to really be a segment made more for Whites, and other non Blacks to know about some of the things we experience! It's like a statement comedian Dave Chappelle once made on his "Killin em softly" special, that White people almost didn't know or want to believe that Blacks were being brutalized and mistreated by the police nationwide in the manner that they were, until Newsweek and other "credible" sources in the press did a story or expose on it!

Do you all think that with CNN doing a special on the difficult, biased and unfair situations and circumstances Blacks are put through in this country will bring about any significant change within the systems that look to still bring us down? And what steps should we take as a people to make sure that things start to improve for ourselves and our children's future? Below I have some video clips from the CNN special shown on Sunday July 27th. These segments highlight topics from Sex & violence & it's impact on Hip-Hop, to an interview with Spike Lee, to the depiction of Black Men in the news & media & more!

So for those who hadn't seen the show at all, take a look at these video clips, and tell us what you think. Thanks for your time family much appreciated. till next time, be safe & stay blessed!
