Being Kind Goes a Lot Further Than You Realize

Melina Ann Collison
You never know who is going to touch your life and on what level. I had an experience lately where this woman my mother knows reached out and changed my entire existence without even knowing me. I met her once at a theme park with my children for about 30 seconds but to be honest I do not remember the occasion. However, here this woman is giving me advice that is so right for my life it is akin to a giant beacon of light pointing in the correct direction saying to go this way.

I followed her advice and now I am a better person for it. If she had not spoken the words that changed my outlook on life who knows how my uncomfortable situation would have turned out. I am sure everything would have been tragic if left up to me alone to decide the course of action.

Who would have thought that this woman I had not even remembered and only glanced at once would be the stake that held up my life? Take a good look around you. Hold elevators, open doors for people, stop yelling at others while driving, and just be nice because that person you just pissed off could have been someone important. You never know.

What if I would have been rude to this woman that day I met her in the theme park? How would my life have been changed by a few unkind words? I will tell you, in my situation, the encounter would have been tragic and heartbreaking for the rest of my life. If that woman had thought I wasn't worth her time then I would not have gotten the advice I needed when I needed it.

As a society we must understand that even though there are a lot of people in this world you never know which one could potentially be a friend or change your life. Friends come out of the blue when you need them most. Like guardian angels. Let's stop complaining about our day or the weather, call people back and don't avoid phone calls, say thank you and you're welcome, be polite, and treat people with love.

You never know how this can change your life. Thank you Mary G for touching my life in such a way that I could never explain, angels come down from above at just the right time.

Changing the world one person at a time!
