Being the Mom of a Toddler

Sara Masters-Blacksten
My son is the most energetic, crazy toddler I have ever met. He tells me no, he throws balls in the house, he takes his pants off and hides in his closet, he pulls stuff off of the shelves at Wal-Mart, and he is the best thing to ever happen to me.

Whoever said that it would be nice if children came with an Owner's Manual wasn't lying. If my son had come with one I might not be pulling my hair out everyday, and savoring my time alone in the bathroom. He gets himself into so much stuff it's like living at the circus. For a good three months, he thought it was funny to dump an entire container of Johnson's baby powder all over his room. Let me tell you, cleaning it up isn't funny at all. The day after my husband and I put in brand new hardwood floors, my son dumped an entire container of Comet on them. Lets just say my dining room floor isn't as shiny as it should be. If he manages to get into the bathroom unnoticed, he'll dunk toilet paper in the toilet and decorate my bathroom with it. He scoops out handfuls of my pomade and smears them on the wall. He defies all discipline, and me.

Don't take this as me saying that my son is all bad, he certainly isn't. He is absolutely the love of my life. His new thing is to give me kisses and tell me that I am his best friend. It makes my heart melt. Every night when I put him to bed he makes me tell him a story about him and me. At the end of the story when I say "And Isaac and his Mommy lived happily ever after." He says it along with me, and smiles. There is nothing better than being a parent, and nothing more trying than being the parent of a toddler.

Cute story. Cherish those moments because those years go by like a flash.
