Being a PartyLite Consultant: Surviving Your First Show

Lisa Ross
PartyLite is a great way to make money by doing in-home demonstrations. For many, though, this requires stepping out of their comfort zone. A common phrase heard from people who do their first home party is "I was so nervous I thought I'd die!" Obviously since they were around to tell about it, they didn't die. Don't let fear of speaking in public stop you from pursuing success in direct sales. Here are some tips to get you through it.

Tell people it's your first time putting on a show and they'll be quick to reassure you. Have fun with it and don't take it too seriously. Strive for an effective and fun presentation rather than perfection, because you won't be perfect but if you're trying too hard to be perfect you won't be fun. People are typically understanding and will give you valuable feedback as to what you can work on. The best way to learn is by doing.

Prior to the show, talk to others in PartyLite to pick up some catchy phrases or fun sayings that relate to your product. This will help make your show fun, make you feel more confident, and you can always come back to them should you get off track. Having a mental list of one-liners will help you feel like a pro right from the start.

Encourage people to share during your presentation. They won't remember every word you said, but they will remember how you made them feel. And a quick way to make them feel good is to listen to what they say. Asking open-ended questions is a good way to get them talking. Try to generate a nice flow of information, sharing from the audience, and throwing in funny sayings.

No matter how nervous you are, if you love the PartyLite product that will speak for itself and override your fear of public speaking. When you get flustered or stuck, you can always bring it back to your love of the product and why they should love it, too.

Before you know it, your first PartyLite show will be done and you'll never have to do it for the first time ever again! You will notice that you didn't die from stage fright and may have had more fun than you thought you would. Stick with it and you will continue to make money as well as increase your public speaking skills, which are incredibly valuable.
