Sometimes Its Worth It

It has been said that having a friend is a sure step towards self improvement. Sometimes we get so busy with our careers and families and even hobbies, that friends get pushed aside. But friends can chase away the blues. They can give you a reason to celebrate. Sometimes, they improve your life in intangible ways, like keeping you company on vacation.

I know some people are hard to get along with. But if you have a friend, treasure that relationship for as long as it lasts. Sometimes something will happen and that relationship will end. But while you are friends, you can learn and grow from each other.

I didn't always have a lot of friends, and then when I got more, it felt really good. But now that I am really more selective about who my friends are, I find the quality of my life is improving. I consider friends to be a little blessing. They keep you grounded and help give you a reality check.

When my friends started calling me J-lo, I felt uncomfortable and they stopped after a while. And now that I have a book coming out, I got to share the good news with my friends. It is really important to be able to share your blessings. Now I have better relationships because I am not as lonely as I used to be.
Sometimes it can get tricky having friends with the opposite sex. You have to define the relationship and sometimes you won't like the answer you get. Once I was friends with a guy who thought we were dating and then he got offended that I said I'd like it if were boyfriend and girlfriend and then it became official that we were just friends.

Sometimes life is trying but if you have friends, it can make it more worthwhile. Sometimes, your friends will come from work, sometimes from a club or church. Sometimes you'll just meet someone you click with. Maybe you'll have a common interest. Or a desire to learn more about that person, in any rate, if you enjoy their company, it can be rewarding when you do see them. Even if its not that often.

Sometimes, though, you need to balance your life. If all you want is to be with your friends, your work and family might suffer. You also might rely too much on people and need to spend time developing a hobby or interest. I took up the clarinet again and it has helped me find a greater joy in life. So friends can be an important part of your life, but make sure they don't over whelm you.
