Being Single Actually Rocks: A List of Reasons Touting Singlehood

Katie Decker
While our married friends look at us with pity, thinking we are missing the finer things in life, we know that being single really is not so bad. In fact, they should be jealous of our lifestyle and the choices we can make, if we want to. Unlike them, we have nobody to report to. Being single is quite liberating. Here is why:

1. While most women are amazingly talented at remembering important dates, such as birthdays and anniversaries, we constantly second-guess and worry about remembering them. And guys just plain do not remember them for anything. If you are single, you do not have to worry about your upcoming anniversary (you think), or when your spouses birthday is.

2. You can enjoy a long, hot shower in the morning without ever having to worry about whether there will be enough hot water for the next person in line.

3. If a friend calls you up and says to be ready in 15 minutes, you are free to go out and have fun. In fact, stay out all night if you want to. Go nuts!

4. You know that list of things you always wanted to do, like hitting up that funky art museum downtown? You can do them. All of them. Whenever you want.

5. Admit it: cleaning is no fun. And cleaning up after other people is even worse. If you are single, you only have your own filth to clean up. If you choose to.

6. While it is nice to have someone to snuggle up to at night, it is just as nice to sprawl out, hogging the entire bed, and not having to fight over the blankets.

7. There is no power struggle over the remote, the radio station, or what movie to watch. You win every time.

8. There are no surprises when using the bathroom. No mystery puddles, and the toilet seat is always how you left it.

9. While some consider flirting harmless even if you are in a relationship, when you are single, flirt anytime, anywhere, completely guilt-free.

10. Do what you want, when you want. There is no one to tell you otherwise. Life your life by your own rules.

So next time your married friends give you that look, (and you know which one I am talking about), whip out this list and remind them of all things good being single brings. They were single once too, and once they are reminded of the joy of freedom, they might actually agree with you, although probably not in front of their other halves.
