Bellenbaum Family Grave Site Information for Genealogy Purposes

Bellenbaum Family Grave Site in Saginaw, Michigan, at Oakwood Cemetery

Kristen Wilkerson
The Bellenbaum family inhabited the Saginaw, Michigan, area. One head stone at the Oakwood Cemetery contained four names, all of the last name of Bellenbaum. Not only is their last name unique, but three people were born within a year, and one of them died before another was born. This combination sparked an interest in this family, so I did some research about them to help others conduct genealogy research about the Bellenbaum family. The history of those who have gone before often comes to life when delving into the details.

Alexander Bellenbaum (December 29, 1890 - December 18, 1913)
The Oakwood Cemetery report lists that Alexander died in Kingfisher of tuberculosis at the young age of 22. However, there is currently no city in Michigan named "Kingfisher", and Findagrave.com reports that he died in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Alexander was buried on December 20, 1913, in Oakwood Cemetery, Lot 43, Section 86, in the Southwest corner in Saginaw, Michigan.

Alena June Bellenbaum (1918 - 1919)
Alena died as a child of eight months of cononlsions, which may have meant convulsions, on March 19, 1919. She was born five years after Alexander passed away, so she was not his child. It is likely that she was Elsie and Edward's child, however, since she is buried with them. This means that Elsie and Edward would have been married. Thus, this would make Alexander a brother to Edward, as Elsie would have adopted the Bellenbaum name upon marrying.

Elsie L. Bellenbaum (1890 - 1966)
Elsie was a caucasian female with the middle name of Louise. She was 75 years old when she died in Saginaw, Michigan, on January 29, 1966, from coronary thrombosis. She was buried on February 1, 1966. Elsie was the wife of Edward Jr. whom she married September 15, 1910, and was the mother of Edward III, Richard, Elsie A. (Becker) and James.

Edward W. Bellenbaum (March 5, 1889 - 1969)
Edward W. died at the age of 80 of cardiac arrest. He lived in Saginaw, and died on April 9, 1969. He was buried on April 12, 1969. Since Edward W. was the older of these two brothers, it makes sense that he would be given his father's name. Edward retired from Pere Marquette Railroad, and was in fact the son of Edward Sr. and Friedericka Bellenbaum.

Sure enough, in a different section of the cemetery, but not photographed, is an Edward Bellenbaum who was buried on September 3, 1907. His grave is located in section 2, lot 33. He lived to be 73 years old and died in Brant Township of cytitis, a problem involving the bladder. He is the father of Edward W. Bellenbaum, listed above, and was born Jan. 8, 1835, in Germany.

Other Bellenbaum family members are buried at Oakwood Cemetery, including Annie A.H. who was stillborn in 1882. There is also Fredericka who passed away on January 20, 1892, from pneumonia at age 45; and Willie who died at 4 months old also from pneumonia and was buried on February 12, 1893. Their burial locations are near Edward Bellenbaum Sr.
