If there is one form of exercise that is specifically designed for a female then this is the one. Belly Dancing has been around before the time of Solomon. Not only is it great for you emotionally and for seducing your guy, but it is also a wonderful way to loose weight and tone up. Unlike many other forms of Dance, your extra weight does not need to discourage you. Some of the best Belly Dancers are a bit heavier. The strange thing however is that as you undulate your body to the pulsating rhythms of the Belly Dancing Music and consciously use each muscle to move, shift, seduce and entice your guy, you isolate certain muscle groups and gently tone them without noticing.

A short History of Belly Dancing

The Name of the Dance which commonly known today as Belly Dance is "Raks Sharqi" in Arabic literally translated the "Oriental Dance". Later it became the Stomach Dance and then to us the Belly Dance. I prefer to call it more correctly the Goddess Dance. The Dance was done during a time before Christianity and Islam made Goddess Worship something dirty. The Worship of the great Mother Goddess held the birth of a child, sexuality and the feminine sacred without the feministic views of today. I still perform the "Goddess Dance" with me becoming the living Goddess for my Husband who is my Master, my Consort and my Love.
There story differs from Teller to Teller where the Dance originated from, what we do know however is that is was around before Christ and well into the BC Area. Its origin is traced back to the Middle Eastern Regions of the World.
As best as I have found there are two separate types of Belly Dancing. One is appropriate for the festivals, weddings or other joyous affairs on which the entire family may look upon. It is in as much as family affair as that the Women perform the dance while the Men provide the music on their instruments. The Dance moves are passed from female to female and it is a highly esteemed art.

The other, is a more private or entertaining form of the Belly Dance... "The Dance of the seven Veils" would come more into that category. However, don't make the mistake that all Belly Dancing Performances end with the female being Nude. Belly Dancing is not a strip tease. However in the privacy of your Bedchamber there is nothing wrong with ending highly available at the feet of your Sheik.

Why does Belly Dancing work as an Aid for Weight loss and Toning?

While you go through the different moves of your Belly Dancing Routine you isolate the different muscles in a gentle way. The moves are designed for the female body and are natural to us.
During a dance routine you stretch, tone and sweat. Since you can interpret your own taste of dance steps to the music you have chosen, you can either use quick movements for fat burning or slow moves for toning. Between you and me, it is also a great turn on and mood elevator for you.

Since the music and moves are widely varied the chances of it getting boring are slim. If you enjoy dress up, you have another reason to enjoy this form of exercise. It also works as a natural detoxify for your mind. The vibrant colors of your dance clothing further help with bringing a bit of sunshine into your emotional palate. During dancing, each area of your body will be used. Quiet literally from the head on to your ankles, each body part is used in some form of movement. However, beware that it looks a lot easier then it really is. You will have to practice and learn to isolate top from bottom and muscle group to muscle group. Coordination is another area in which you will benefit. Often as in the figure 8 movements of the hips you will move your hip area one way and your neck or upper chest the opposite. Sounds funny? Maybe, but the results are amazing.

Belly Dancing as a Mother and Daughter activity.

This is an excellent class to take for a Mother and Daughter together. Once girls are in their teenage years or even pre-teen it is a great Idea to teach them to move gracefully and get their bodies under control. Belly Dancing is a subtle form or grace that is often lost in everyday walk, dance or behavior.

Even as it is seductive, it is not explicit. You control with your own movements and behaviors if it is fun, seductive or an expression of joy without any come on intentions.

How to get started

If you are interested in getting started in Belly Dancing you can join your local Belly Dancing group, a Gym which offers a Belly Dancing class or you can learn from DVD's readily available at your local library or Store.

For those of you that are a bit shy and self-conscious, I advice the following learning DVD's you can purchase at any Music and DVD Store.

The Essential Belly Dance with Anja
This is a 2 DVD set which teaches you the basics in two easy to learn lessons. Quick and slow movements. Not a bad price either, I paid $24.99 for the set. (I have been a Goddess or Belly Dancer for well over 15 Years now and I found the DVD's very fun to watch and follow. I would highly recommend it to you)

If you want to learn how to Belly Dance for seduction you may want to purchase the following little DVD. Jayna is wonderful at explaining the seduction aspect of the Dance and how to flirt without ever saying a word.

    I hear ya.. I had a baby about a little over a year ago. I'm tall so I can distribute my weight so it doesn't look bad but my abs just aren't what they used to be. I might consider taking a belly dancing class once a week offered through my community.
