The current belly dancing instructor at the YWCA in Brunswick, Georgia has been teaching belly dancing lessons since 2006 and is passionate about the class. In addition to the belly dancing lessons she teaches at the YWCA, she regularly dances with a belly dancing troupe based in Florida and attends belly dancing classes herself on a regular basis. She is also a certified YWCA instructor for other fitness classes at the YWCA in Brunswick, Georgia. If you join the belly dancing class at the YWCA in Brunswick, you can be sure that your belly dancing lessons will be taught by an experienced belly dancer and in a way that will give you a nice all-over toning workout with a little cardio, too.

A Typical Belly Dancing Lesson at the YWCA in Brunswick, Georgia
If you've never taken a belly dancing lesson, don't be shy. Many of the movements in belly dancing lessons are very similar to things you might have done in other fitness or cardio classes. Most importantly, to be good at belly dancing, practicing the fundamentals is important and your belly dancing lessons at the Brunswick YWCA will reflect that.

The best thing about taking a belly dancing lesson at the YWCA in Brunswick, Georgia is the non-intimidation. You won't be greeted at the door of the workout room by dancing students in full belly dancing outfits. Most of the belly dancing students are women just like you who are coming in to class straight from work. Comfortable workout clothes (think yoga attire) are all that is required for a belly dancing lesson. Wearing a close-fitting top will assist you in determining if you are doing the exercises correctly. But no one is going to force you to wear one if you're uncomfortable doing so. Most women bring a hip scarf to class but don't worry about it if it's your first class. The instructor at the YWCA in Brunswick normally brings an extra one or two for new attendees taking their first belly dancing lesson. You don't even need special shoes; most members are barefoot. Finally, don't let age intimidate you if you are taking your first belly dancing lesson. The YWCA in Brunswick Georgia has belly dance students from teens to retirees!

To begin each belly dancing lesson, each class at the YWCA in Brunswick, Georgia includes a warm-up to stretch the muscles you will be using. Then, you will practice the fundamentals of the moves that are the focus of the belly dancing lesson for that day. If you are a beginner, belly dancing lessons are a great way to introduce yourself to dance or fitness class. Good belly dancing lessons like the ones at the YWCA in Brunswick go slow enough to learn the movement correctly and to isolate the correct muscles. This makes the class great for first-timers. It is important to go over the fundamentals of each belly dancing movement many times, so you will never feel lost during your belly dancing lesson. You won't be bored with the fundamentals in the belly dancing lessons, either, because it will be obvious within two weeks that your arms, belly, quads, and calves are getting a great workout.

At the YWCA, the word you will hear in discussing the fundamentals of belly dancing lessons is isolations, the movement of only one set of muscles at a time. To get the toned look of a belly dancer, it is important to practice these fundamental isolations over and over during belly dancing lessons. This is what makes a belly dancing lesson non-intimidating and a good workout all at the same time. But practicing fundamental isolations isn't the only thing you'll do during your belly dancing lesson at the YWCA. Once you've practiced a few isolations, you'll put it all together at the end of your belly dancing lesson. The YWCA belly dancing instructor always concludes the belly dancing lesson by putting together a very short dance of the movements you have just practiced. So, not only have you just worked out, at the end of your first belly dancing lesson you are truly belly dancing!

I have been attending bellyDance lessons since 2005 and have the pleasure of being a student of Sajah Medina of Island Tribe.
After attending various workshops over the years with other professional instructors all teaching different styles, forms . . . I can honestly say; Sajah is Very well versed in the wonderful ancient art form known here as BellyDance! I've learned more about myself and have grown so much in a matter of months with Sajah than I had with any previous instructor. She makes it fun as well as invigorating! I would highly recommend everyone attend one of Sajah's classes - you will NOT be disappointed!

I am the current director and instructor for Island Tribe Belly Dance in St. Marys GA and Fernandina Beach, FL. The YMCA has hosted me as a guest instructor for two workshops that were well attended and quite popular. We are looking for a location in Brunswick but until then, a half hour drive is not far when you're looking for a qualified Belly Dance instructor who has been teaching the ancient art for over 16 years and has been published in numerous belly dance publications as well as performed extensively throughout the Southwest. Teaching the Art of Belly Dance involves also teaching the middle eastern rhythms, an understanding of the cultures you represent and the history of Tribal belly dance in America. Belly Dancing (when done correctly) can be very theraputic and great for all fitness levels. Posture and correct movement are key. Please visit www.IslandTribeBellyDance.com for more information.
