Beloved

Poetry About a Toxic Relationship

Yvonne Leehelen Dowell
Touching and kissing our love began on a bed of tears.

Our storm of passion was the clock of time.

One day darkness settled within your soul.

White rivers choked you with death.

I could not drown with you.

I thought this was love.

Your love was bloody red.

You whispered it was a dream.

For many years black and white waters fought.

Once, I thought you were reborn.

You gave up the known.

Ragged, bony, you choose.

Voices were not heard by you.

Caught between the times,

You took the flame.

Nothing will ever be the same.
