Ben Nelson Will Be the 60th Vote on Healthcare

Ben Nelson has had many issues with healthcare reform since it was first started to be pursued by Barack Obama. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has been pressuring and buying off fellow democrats to get the votes to hand Obama this much needed, but unwanted and undeserved win. This is one bill that the American public is overwhelmingly against. Even liberals are against the compromised bill and being "a gift to insurance companies". Like some say this is a darned if you do or darned if you don't bill.

Ben Nelson is a Democratic Senator from Nebraska that is typically very conservative. He is staunchly pro life and issues with abortion language is one of the main reasons that he stated until December 19^th 2009 that he would not vote for the current healthcare legislation bill because it does do enough to prevent taxpayer dollars from being used to pay for abortions. He also was staunchly against any type of public option or early buy ins to Medicare. He was, or at least claimed to be, prepared to join republicans in a filibuster of the unpopular legislation.

Well this causes a rift in the Democratic Party. The sane members of the party want to do away with the public option and some like Nelson wanted tougher abortion restrictions. The liberal wing then starts getting angry because there are not enough hand outs in this and women can't just have abortion on demand at the taxpayer expense. Joe Lieberman also threw a monkey wrench into things by going against the idea of the public option and Medicare early buy in as well.

Well Nelson turned out to be a very dishonorable man and was basically bought by Chicago style politics of Obama and Harry Reid. Nelson basically is taking their word for it on abortion money being kept separate from public funds from taxpayers used to assist lower income people in affording healthcare legislation. He also has made it that Nebraska will be exempt from the increase that most states will have to pay for the poor people that are allowed into Medicaid based on the new liberal bill that will most likely pass. This is very similar to the one offered to Louisiana Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu who got 300 million in bribe money for Louisiana to assist with Medicaid. That was jokingly called the "second Louisiana Purchase". They are calling Nelson "Ben the price is right Nelson". This is the type of thing that Barack Obama campaigned against. They are blatant bribery and kickbacks. Yes they are getting it for their states, but there is no such thing as a free lunch. Some preliminary reports have part of Nelson's deal is that states can opt out of Medicaid. This being the case many states could drop Medicaid. This will put a greater burden on tax payers as then these people will need to go on federal subsidies.

This is the kind of things wrong with politics as usual. Over 68% of people in Nebraska do not want the bill passed. Nelson will vote for it anyway. In addition Americans in general do not want it but Senators are going to vote for it. The real kicker is my state has a Democrat senator that is basically a rubber stamp for Obama. Were is our kickback? This is what all Senators should be doing now. This is a ponzi scheme at its worse and it will be doomed to fail. The CBO has said that it will save money in the long run. They are not taking as much consideration of the rationing that will occur and the effect that illegal immigrants and anchor babies could have on this.

I would encourage anyone who values this nation needs to urge their senator to do what they were sent to Washington for and vote this pathetic bill down. If this passes, and it probably will, people must let Obama consider it a victory and remember this when it is time to vote the bums in congress who voted for this out of office.
