Ben Roethlisberger: Back on Track

Great News for Diehard Steeler's Fans

Sherri Granato
After having reconstructive surgery performed on his face from a motorcycle accident on June 12th, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger chalks it all up to a bad year. The popular quarterback claims that he quite possibly would have still faced a bad year even if the accident never happened at all. The cards seemed to be stacked against Big Ben as no sooner that he began to recover from prior injuries from his motorcycle accident; he was rushed to the emergency room in early September for an emergency appendectomy.

It was Big Ben's third operation within a ten month time frame, but his remarkable recovery left Steeler lovers hopeful of a repeat from the prior year's football season, but it just didn't happen that way. Roethlisberger says that he is not going to look back and say, "Wow, this is what caused this and this is what caused that". Ken Whisenhunt, the Steelers' ex-offensive coordinator feels that Ben was rushed back into action, but Roethlisberger doesn't share that same belief.

Whisenhunt feels strongly that Ben's health problems were a direct link to his lower than average performance, and blames a bad season of which he only threw 23 interceptions. The end result was that the Steelers' went 8-8, and missed the playoffs. Diehard fans watched Ben's every move and feared that the Steelers might never recuperate without Big Ben. Roethlisberger's come back at Whisenhunt's attitude about his bad year of football was that he was sure that Whisenhunt had suffered at least one bad year in his career as well.

Pittsburgher's take football seriously as banner's, ads, Steeler songs, and horn honking are part of the action regularly seen within the 100 mile radius that surrounds the Steel City, and Pittsburgh was taken by storm when Ben Roethlisberger, the big, athletic quarterback with a strong arm quickly evolved into one of the NFL's most consistent quarterbacks as he finished third in the NFL in passer rating in 2005, and helped the Steelers become the first team to win three road playoff games in 2005. At just 23 years old Ben became the youngest starting quarterback in NFL history to win a Super Bowl, and he appeared to guide the Steelers to their first Super Bowl victory in 26 years with relative ease.

Big Ben feels confident that his health is back on track and that he is completely healed. Looking at his newly reconstructed face it is hard to believe that any accident ever occurred at all. Roethlisberger now has an official authorized website where fans can stop by and visit to see the latest news on his stats, and the 2007 schedule for the Steelers. Ben even has an official blog where he shares his thoughts and personal portraits of his closest family members. http://www.bigben7.com/. Steeler fans can once again chant their all time favorite "Here we go Steelers, here we go"!

This tweet came from ESPN’s Tim Cowlishaw:

If Big Ben was signing “Piano Man” at bar at 1 a.m., more power to him. If he was singing “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” I’d suspend him.

nbc sports reported that TMZ has obtained footage of the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback hanging out at Pete’s Dueling Piano Bar in Fort Worth Texas. So what?

Go Steelers! Pittsburgh's famous QB does karaoke at a piano bar in Texas! Big Ben is getting a bad rap no matter what he does. He is human, he enjoys life, he sings! Since when is that a crime? Quit retrying him at every turn. He has never been convicted of any crime. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

I'm a Vikings fan, but the way the media carrys on about ol' Ben just shows how much the worship of sports stars and celebrities in this country is. When he had the accident, ESPN acted as though Gandhi or MLK died or something.
