Ballroom dancing has gained popularity thanks to the TV show, Dancing With The Stars. Many of the stars who dance make it look graceful and so effortless. However, ballroom dancing takes a lot of time and hard work. There are many benefits for those who ballroom dance.

Ballroom dancing has a number of positive aspects. One of the positive benefits of ballroom dancing is exercise. When people learn to ballroom dance they use muscles that they may not know they had. It uses many of the larger muscle groups like the legs, arms, and back. Because of the different moves, spins, and holding of the arms, muscles can become tightened and toned. Ballroom dancing is a good form of cardio workout. Some of these dances involve speed and movement at all times, from hips to the shoulders. Dancing can add variety other than doing the normal workouts and burns more calories then walking or swimming. With all the exercise and movement from ballroom dancing, this also leads to weight loss.

People who take ballroom dancing also become more confident with themselves. It improves appearance and poise and can also help posture. When people are learning these dances, they have to use their mind and bodies as one. They will also learn to move their bodies gracefully with the flow of the music. Ballroom dancing also increases flexibility and balance. It can also help with concentration because memorizing steps and movements is a big part to ballroom dancing.

Another positive benefit to ballroom dancing is learning to work as a team. You have to learn to trust your partner and depend on their movements. There will be many trials in learning the steps and a lot of aggravation, but in working as a team these aggravations can be overcome.

Ballroom dancing has another advantage. It can be a great way to get rid of stress. When someone is learning to ballroom dance, they are focused on the dance itself and not the stressful things that are happening in their lives. All your attention goes on your partner, the music, and the dance steps. It's also great for making new friends and just socializing. Socializing helps with stress by talking and just being around others who are enjoying what you are enjoying.

The last positive benefit of ballroom dancing is rehabilitation. If someone has had surgery, like knee surgery, they have to have movement in order to get better. Ballroom dancing allows the movement needed. With many types of dances associated with ballroom dancing, you can pick and choose the dances that will help in your rehabilitation process. Besides this would be a lot more fun than running or aerobics.
