Benefits of Being Single

Elena Newell
There are many benefits of being single but it appears that there is a large scale conspiracy by the society against it. Just look at the way a few things like taxes, work policies and extra fees for those traveling alone are designed to discourage singledom. Notwithstanding a few obstacles one has to face when one is single the advantages far outweigh the few disadvantages. This is not to say that being married doesn't have its virtues but there are many people today who are past their prime, single and happy.

The number one benefit of being single is of course the sense of freedom that it entails. And if you were recently in a bad relationship then you must have really enjoyed the great sense of liberation that being single again can bring. When you are single the only person you have to please is yourself. Isn't that great? Come to think of it, you need not even please yourself if you don't want to. According to census data released in 2006 47.3% of the households in the US are unmarried households. So, you may be single but you are not alone.

Being single you can do or have whatever you want without ever having someone to tell you what is or isn't good for you. You will have complete freedom to do what you want, whenever you want it and with whomever you want. You are only responsible to yourself and no one else. You can have a great time yourself at any time and anywhere without feeling guilty about it. Some people may think of it as being selfish or self-centered but if by being selfish you are not harming someone or encroaching on someone else's rights then there is nothing wrong with it. Everyone is not marriage material.

By being single you learn to enjoy your own company. You can have two day's of the weekend just to yourself to enjoy any way you want. You can enjoy a stroll in the park and enjoy the quality time with yourself. If you choose to stay at home you have your TV remote to use all by yourself to enjoy your favorite programs for as long as you wish. Or you can sleep late into the afternoon if you want to. There is no need to feel guilty about not being able to spare time for your partner on weekdays and being forced to give of yourself to your partner on the weekends. An the best part is you don't have to clean up after anyone.
