The strategy behind it - There's a whole strategy behind using coupons. It's really about combining sale items with your paper coupons, store coupons, electronic coupons and promotions to get the best deals - even free items. When I get an item for free or next to nothing, it feels great that I even figured out how to do that!
Meal planning is easy - I used to be so lost in the grocery store. See, I don't really know how to plan a meal. I never knew what to cook! When I make my grocery list around my coupons, shopping is easy. I don't have to decide what to buy or cook because it's already decided for me.
Trying new things - I used to buy the same things all the time. I bought what I knew my husband and I liked. Now, I buy things I wouldn't normally buy because I can get them for real cheap. I know that if neither one of us like it, it's okay because it wasn't expensive to buy. I've discovered a lot of items I like that I wouldn't have tried otherwise.
It's always something different - Usually, when people go grocery shopping, they buy the same things. They make the same recipes all the time. They make chicken regularly or steak regularly. When I go shopping, we eat what I can get for cheap and it's something different all the time. We eat a variety of meals.
Getting creative with meals - Many people will find a recipe they want to try and buy all the ingredients. The meal may end up costing more than if they had just gone out to dinner. I make up my own recipes or substitute other recipes based on what I have and what's on sale that week. It's fun to make up my own little recipes using this method.
You know where everything is in the store - After a few trips, you learn where every item is located and it makes it much easier when you're trying to find something specific.
Less impulse buying - I go to specific stores based on who is having a sale and what I have coupons for. Instead of just going to a store and buying clothes, I go where the deals are. I can get much more for my money this way, plus I never have to decide where to go to get what I need.
You learn what things should cost - Let me rephrase. You know what you can get for what price. If you browse your circulars, you will know what you can get it for when you see an item and feel confident that you won't overpay when you do need an item.
Decisions are easier - When my husband and I want to go out for dinner, we go where the deals are and what I have coupons for. If I have a coupon for buy one get one free, we go there. If a restaurant is having a special, then we go there. We don't have to waste an hour trying to decide where to go.
Having what you need - How many times have you gone to make something and you realize you're out of an ingredient. It could be salt, butter, pasta sauce - anything. When you use coupons, you tend to buy in bulk. If I can get a tub of butter for free or next to nothing, I buy it. Then when I need it, it's there! I find I "forget" things at the grocery store much less often.
Seeing people's reactions - It's annoying to be in line behind the person that has a hundred coupons. I feel bad for that sometimes and even warn someone if they go to get behind me in line sometimes. But, watching their faces when they see how much I save is priceless. Most people are interested in how I did it.

Post a CommentAll good ideas, Lainie. I have discovered many stores move thing around so you have to hunt for what you want. A tactic to get you to buy more. While hunting for what you want you may find something else you want (or think you want).
