Benefits of Creating a Squidoo Lens

Web Writing and Promotion

Pam Gaulin
Creating a Squidoo Lens, or a one page web site has its advantages for web article promotion. Using the Squidoo process can teach you how to focus your writing, how to promote your writing, and yes, it can even bring you page views. The upside is that you can also make a little bit of extra money at the same time.
Benefits of Creating a Squidoo Lens

1. Focusing on Web Writing Topics

Going through the process of creating a one-page web site on Squidoo is an ideal way of teaching writers to hone their own web writing lens. Your web writing lens is the lens through which you narrow down and focus in on content.

Think of Squidoo as your own personal microscope of keyword phrases and topics. You may start out with one idea and as you build your lens you can begin to see the many different cells that can make up one topic.

For example, I started a home decorating lens. Because there was so much information that I wanted to include, I had to make multiple lenses. I created one entire lens based on 1950s Home Decor.

2. Generating Web Writing Topics

During the lens creating process, you may also come up with new ideas. For example, while creating the AC Toolbox I was looking at movies for writers. I realized how many great movies for writers existed, that I had seen, and I wanted to share. That turned into an article: Top 10 Movies for Writers.

3. Google Juice for Web Content

Web writers need a good healthy dose of Google juice in order to get their content noticed. In doing my own searches, I notice that Squidoo search results tend to come up in Google searches ahead of all the social bookmarking networks.

4. Keyword Popularity Testing Ground

There are plenty of free ways to check on the popularity of keywords. Squidoo is an easy way to actually test out keyword phrases for popularity and web traffic. With your free Squidoo account, you have access to a dashboard which lists statistics, including how many visits your lens has received in the last seven days.

With Squidoo you can see which of your lenses is the most popular. This can be eye-opening when it comes to discovering searchable and popular topics.

5. Market to Niche Audiences

Another benefit of creating a Squidoo lens is that it can help you organize your content and promote it to niche markets. People interested in low-fat foods may not be the same people interested in Lost, or in crafts for kids.

By making one attractive web page with all of your related content, you make it easier for readers to find just the articles they need.

Thanks for the article Pam.... right now, AC is the only site I write to. I'm looking into other sites like Squidoo and HubPages too. Not signed up yet for them, just checking them out, then I'll decide.
