How to Save Money on Gas

Even though American gas prices are decreasing, the cost of fueling is still burdensome to many consumers. However, there are ways to get more mileage for your dollar by using gas credit cards. Such cards offer the convenience of fueling without debit card holds or needing to carry cash, and free up space on other credit cards such as MasterCard for other purchases.

Most gas stations offer personal and/or business credit cards. Many approve those with average to excellent credit. This guide lists some of the major gas credit cards available to Americans aged 18 and older.

Phillips 66-Conoco-76 credit card is good at all three of those branded filling stations, with locations all over the United States. This card offers customers the ability to manage and pay their accounts on a special Web site. It comes with zero liability in the event of unauthorized transactions, and can be applied for online. It has an 18.99 percent variable interest rate and no annual fee. A major advantage of Phillips 66-Conoco-76 card is the availability of cash advances.

Another popular gas credit card is issued jointly by Chevron and Texaco - two more filling stations with many franchises nationwide. In addition to their gas credit card, there is also a Visa card for qualified applicants. Both cards hold no annual fee. Fuel credit card customers receive one year of free roadside assistance with their membership - saving the costs of roadside services such as AAA. Chevron-Texaco gas credit card also has a 10 cent per gallon cash back benefit for the first 60 days. The promotion is refunded to the credit card billing statements. Chevron-Texaco also offers online applications and account management.

ExxonMobil also has a personal gas credit card usable at all United States locations of Exxon and Mobil. Consumers can also apply for an ExxonMobil MasterCard. For those who select and are approved for the ExxonMobil gas credit card, they can also purchases snacks and car repairs with their card. Those services and items must be purchased at an Exxon or Mobil fuel station. The interest rate is a variable 21 percent, and cash advances can also be taken with the ExxonMobil gas credit card.

The best way to save money using a gas card is to pay the balance in full each month. Since those with vehicles have a transportation budget, doing so should be a snap. Then you can reap the benefits and rewards of your particular card without paying interest rates on an everyday purchase such as fuel.
