Benefits I've Received from Maternity Belly Button Rings

A few years ago, I lost about 40 pounds. As a reward to myself, I decided to get my belly button pierced. It seemed like a good reward for shedding the weight. In addition, it seemed like a good incentive to keep the weight off so that I could show off the belly button ring without having to worry about fat rolls. It turns out that my decision was a very good one.

Fast forward a few years and we come to today. I am currently 36 weeks pregnant with a precious baby boy. I am still sporting a belly button ring. The only difference is that now I have a maternity belly button ring.

I wore my regular belly button ring until I was about four months. At that point, I began to notice a little redness in the area. As it turns out, my skin was having trouble with the angle of the belly button ring as stomach was stretching. The solution for me seemed simple, get a different type of belly button ring or stop wearing one altogether. I opted to find a belly button ring that would work for me.

I searched the Internet and found Body Sparkle, a great site for body jewelry that has a wide selection of maternity belly button rings. In addition to some solid curved barbells that are longer than regular belly button rings, this site offers some bio-flex maternity belly button rings. The maternity belly button rings are all under $10.

I chose a bio-flex maternity belly button ring. This belly button ring is made out of a sort of plastic. It is flexible so it can accommodate my growing belly without making my skin try to stretch around it. As a bonus, I don't have to worry about developing a rash or allergic reaction to metal.

Developing an allergic reaction to metal is common during pregnancy. Belly button rings are usually not solid gold so, it is very difficult for a woman to find a metal belly button ring to wear during pregnancy if she develops an allergic reaction to metal.

I am very happy with my decision to wear a maternity belly button ring. The main thing that I have learned is to remove it and clean it and my belly button every day.

During pregnancy, the body produces extra chemicals. These chemicals will either make your skin oily or dry. In my case, it made my skin dry. My doctor recommended putting a little bit of triple antibiotic ointment on my maternity belly button ring to help keep the hole from drying out. This is only recommended if your belly button piercing is fully healed.

Although some women opt to remove their belly button ring during pregnancy, I encourage women to at least try the maternity belly rings. They are wonderful and they look very good.
