Benefits of Oahu's North Shore Men's Summer Basketball League in Hawaii

Regardless of your age, whether you are just out of high school or almost ready to get your AARP card, you can still play competitive, organized sports. And no, I am not talking about joining a softball team, because let's face it: That is just another excuse to get together with your friends to have some beers.

If you want to stay in shape during the summer and have a chance to win a championship that you may not have been able to get while you were younger, you may want to consider playing in Oahu's North Shore men's summer basketball league.

This league is comprised of teams from the cities of Waialua, Haleiwa, Mokuleia, Pupukea, Laie and Kahuku. There are many that field a team that run the gamut of High School seniors to old teammates from their high school team.

Each team plays once or twice a week and plays in either the early, middle or late game. The games start at around 6:00 pm, which is perfect for those getting off work. The last game usually wraps up around 9:00 pm. Each quarter lasts for 10 minutes and the play is as competitive as you want it to be. You won't see a lot of highflying dunks or jaw dropping crossovers, but what you will see is a bunch of guys who love to play basketball and having tons of fun. I am in no shape whatsoever to be running up and down the court, but for the few minutes I am in there I relive a little of my glory days.

This is what makes this league the best one to play in. If you try playing in the ones in Honolulu, you will find super competitive freaks of nature that think they are playing for an NBA contract.

A small entrance fee will get you in and you can name your team what ever you want. You can see goofy team names such as "And What" which is a play on the "And One" team that plays on ESPN.

You may not find the next Michael Jordan or Lebron James in this gym, but you will find guys with a lot of heart who love the game. If you have a chance try to check them out and root on one of your favorite teams, I am sure they would love to have you. It is always a nice family outing to see some hoops, spend some time with your family and see some old friends.
