Benefits Outweigh the Risks

RipDiction
One of the many moronic headlines of MSN home page that's what is on my mind.
"NBC/WSJ poll: Six in 10 favor more offshore drilling, saying benefits outweigh the risks" (Murray, 2010).

The benefits outweigh the risks, hmmmm
Benefits: 100% monetary....think about it. We could live without it, where there's a will there's a way, humans have survived without their bullshit materialism's for how long? There is a thing called progress. Progression? I call it regression when humanity involves the wildlife around humanity and destroys itself and the innocent.

Risks: Massive oceanic negative impacts (Tally roughly as of today 4 million barrells of oil leaked into ocean thus far). Environmental impacts on every level in reference to the eco-system, biological fragility throughout that same eco-system, organizational atmospheres in fishery's and the industry as a whole, social impacts on tourism. I do not believe I need to go on and would think my own opinion is reasonably clear.

These accidents are not a rarity. What happened to environmental responsibility? Passing down a better planet to our children than the one we received? What ever happened to thinking about LIFE rather than the benefits of money and convenience?

Good questions but the sad reality is that most people could care less. It isn't in their backyard, has no reference to their paycheck spent on materialistic junk shipped in on boats from sweat shops that "employ" (Ha, now there's a joke) children. Not a funny joke either but hey it's only someone else's pain not my own so who cares, pffft. Oh well the machine rolls on full of black gold and a pile of nukes.
