There are numerous reasons why you should take the time to read to your child. If this is something that you are already doing everyday, then these reasons should strengthen your resolve to continue reading to your preschooler each day. These reasons include:
.Stories will both challenge and engage your child's mind. Books will not only allow your child to relive their own life experiences but to also learn about and experience cultures and events that are further removed his life.
.Reading books out loud will establish a goal for your child's literacy efforts. You are the best role model your child could have whenever she is learning how to read herself.
.Sharing various books with your child will improve her knowledge of the English language. It will also increase her vocabulary. This will also make it easier for her to learn how to read.
.Your preschooler will learn how to connect print words and meaning whenever you read to her.
.By reading a book to your preschooler, you are showing her how a book works.
.If the story is well written, then it will stimulate your child's imagination and creativity. They can then use these things whenever they are playing by themselves.
.Studies have shown that the most successful people are those that have the best grasp of narrative technique. This should begin at an early age.
.By making reading an important part of your life, you will teach your child to make it a priority in their life as well.
.Reading to your child promotes physical contact with you, which is important in strengthening your bond with her. This is because when you read to your preschooler she will either sit on your lap or cuddle up next to you.
.It can be very soothing and comforting for your child to listen to you read to him. Since children face a lot of stress throughout their day, taking time to read to your child will reduce his stress levels, as well as yours.
As you can see, there are many reasons why you should make reading an important part of your daily routine. However, you should also take advantage of spontaneous opportunities to read too. This will draw you closer to your child and provide him with lasting memories. Plus, it will also benefit him in a way that will impact him for the rest of his life.
