To be successful in email marketing one of the requisites is the presence of an IP address that is committed to you solely for the delivering of messages at a very large level. If the address used by you is a shared IP address then you are in trouble. This is the general opinion as you have to depend on other marketing people who share the IP address with you.

Well, most of you do not give much importance to the IP address from where you deliver all your email. But the IP address is not a matter to be neglected and the reasons for this is explained here.

When you send email messages they are processed by the internet service providers like AOL, Yahoo and many others who view the messages based on the IP address from which the message is passed. If for example they get a lot from a particular IP address which has been involved in lot of spam mail, then most probably yours too will join the spam list. The main drawback here is even if your deliveries are up to date and you comply with all the rules and regulations if your IP address is shared by people involved in sending spam mails then you will be in trouble also.

The most favorable option in this scenario would be to have your own IP address but maintaining your own IP address is not a very economical thing to do. But you need not worry, there are still some benefits in having a shared IP address in case you are a new entrant and have a considerably small list to work on.

If you have a regular load of email delivering to be done then you need not worry about your clean status but on the contrary if you are sending a very small load of email then this can be as bad as not having a clean status. Marketing people with questionable reputation tend to change their IP addresses often to escape scrutiny so a new IP address can send the wrong signal. It takes a long time for the internet service providers to identify and clear your status.

If you are operating on a low budget then here are some tips to solve your problem of shared IP address.

1. Choose a good Email Service Provider (ESP) who will see to the proper deliverance of the messages by the internet service providers. They offer solutions for any hitches that may occur.

2. All the sites that you link to and the partner sites you work with including yours should be free of black listing. This should be taken care of even if you hire an ESP.

3. A bounce rate of more than 2% indicates the presence of defective delivery system and should be looked into and corrected.

4. Keep track of the open and click ratings of your mails by your users and internet service providers. This will give you an idea of the delivery rate or the lack of deliveries.

For businesses to flourish you need email marketing which, besides being economical, helps in delivering information about sales and other details and also helps to forge a close bond between prospective clients and the customers.
