Benefits of Social Networking Training for Police Forces

We have so much fun in our Social Networking sites but we also leave a trail when we do social networking. That trail can be followed by police forces around the world. That is a good thing if you are a good citizen who is innocently chatting amongst your friends and family. It can be very bad news for criminals though. Police forces around the world are learning the benefits of being trained in how to track criminals through social networking sites like FaceBook. It can often lead to arrests that would otherwise go as unresolved cases.

Benefits of Police Training in Social Networking Sites:

Tracking- Tracking is one of the most important things that police need to know how to do when it comes to social networking sites. People, even criminals are not always the brightest when it comes to leaving clear cut clues to where they are when they do their social networking. They fall under the false impression that if they have their settings in a privacy mode that it can't be accessed. The truth is, anyone can access your information if they understand how it works. For instance, if one of my friends comments on someone's status whom I don't have as a friend on my own list, I can see what that status is. If I can do that no matter what that person's privacy settings are, then the police have more power to get into the profile to see what that person is up to. People just don't realize that they are so open to view because they believe that privacy actually means privacy. The police can certainly use this to their benefit where social networking sites are concerned.

Evidence- Social networking sites are full of clear cut evidence that someone was involved in a crime of some sort. It can provide detailed information about what someone did and why they did it. In many cases, it is about the perpetrator being excited that they got away with something and then wanting to brag about it. They know that bragging is what gets many criminals caught, but each one of them trusts that no one will ever tell on them for what they did. The truth is, people will tell, but they don't have to anymore because you post it plainly on your social networking site for the entire world to view. It's not a smart move by the criminal, but it sure will help the police and that is one of the major benefits of police training for social networking.

Leads- Even if a police officer can't break a case by checking the social networking sites, they can get some good leads in most cases. It just takes one slip up to catch some good leads that will lead the the arrest of someone who is not doing what they are supposed to be doing. Getting good leads is essential to breaking any case and getting the necessary results.

The above are just some of the benefits of social networking training for police forces. Whether you are a detective or a police officer, social networking sites could make your job a lot easier to do. Learning everything you need to learn about how to track someone on social networks like FaceBook can lead to some very interesting information. It is well worth the training that you would need to make that happen.
