Benefits of Spin Yoga

People have different goals when they sign up for fitness classes. Some want to burn fat with a cardiovascular workout, others want to improve and build muscle groups with weight lifting. Still others prefer the lower impact types of floor exercises that focus on stretching and loosening. A balance of all of these can be achieved in a style of exercise known as spin yoga.

Yoga is a centuries-old method of exercising the body and mind together, using visualization and meditation techniques while maximizing the body's physical capabilities with stretching and positioning of the limbs and torso. In this way, a person was given the opportunity to exercise their body while attempting to attain a spiritual connection to their source of divinity. The benefits of yoga have been understood for many years, yet the inclusion of yoga in traditional fitness classes was not considered until recently.

The form of exercise known as spinning is essentially stationary cycling. Riding a bicycle has been a favorite past time in modern cultures for many years, not only for the enjoyment of getting sunshine and fresh air, but for its beneficial aspects to a person's health. Spinning raises the heart rate, increases blood circulation and exercises most of the muscle groups. Stationary cycling has been a popular solitary exercise method in the past and has been offered in fitness classes for many years.

Combining yoga and spinning provides the benefits of yoga with the aerobic aspects of spinning, which has created a new trend for fitness classes. While this exercise regimen is still being developed, there are some basic approaches that combine the benefits of yoga and spinning in a practical yet enjoyable way.

The differences in fitness classes that offer spin yoga can be found in the order that these two forms of exercise are placed in. While some fitness classes begin with the benefits of yoga to prepare the mind and the body for ultimate workout, other fitness classes will start with spinning to get the body's systems working in preparation for focusing on the benefits of yoga.

While many people who may not be aware of either the benefits of yoga or of spinning might prefer the higher impact fitness classes that include weightlifting and more strenuous aerobic workouts, the regimen of spin yoga can offer a sufficient level of cardiovascular exercise that also tunes muscles, burns fat and attunes the mind all at the same time. These are the aspects of spin yoga that can satisfy those who prefer the more traditional fitness classes as well as those who understand the benefits of yoga and the physical benefits of spinning.
