I volunteer at my child's class at least once a week to catch up on what they are doing and to help the teacher out. My daughter loves it when I volunteer since she gets to show me off to all of her classmates and I love it since I get to see what all she is doing throughout that week
Teachers often focus on one subject per week such as adding for math or insects for science. Knowing what your child is learning that week is a great way to implement those things at home and encourage them in school.
My daughter had a hard time in school and I couldn't figure out why she wasn't doing the work when she could do the same work at home. After further investigating her school work versus homework I realized that I was explaining everything to her and breaking it down but the teacher was only able to break it down a few times or would simply tell the children to read the direction and do what it said. It wasn't that my child was dumb, she had a problem with reading comprehension; she could read and understand it when someone else told her what to do but she could read and understand what she read. I got together with her teacher and worked out a plan to take care of this problem. My daughter is now doing good in school and I am proud of her.
A child's confidence should begin with the parents encouraging them. If you know what your child is doing then you can contribute to it and help to grow their confidence.
When a child feels that they can't do anything right their confidence level goes down and when this happens they will slowly begin to stop trying and this is not what we should want as a parent. Get involved with the school and what your child is doing so that you can boost your child's confidence.
Another way that volunteering at your child's school will boost their confidence is by allowing them to tell the other kids that you are their parent. Most kids love it when their parents volunteer and many of the other kids think that it is awesome that a new grown-up is in the class. Even if you can't always volunteer in your child's class you should still try to make it to things like open-house night or to their school outings. Try to keep up with what your child is doing even if you have to ask your child's teacher for a list of activities that they will be doing throughout the week.

Post a CommentKids are encouraged when a parent takes an interest in whatever they're doing. Our schools are performing so poorly now that parents need to be involved more than ever if they want their child to have an adequate education. Great article.
Very good idea Carly.
Moms with little ones still at home could seek out a parent in the same situation and swap baby sitting so each can enjoy the benefits of volunteering in their child's school.
