Bengals' Chris Henry Dies from Injuries After Fall from Truck

NFL Wide Receiver Succumbs to Injuries in Charlotte

Déjà vu in Charlotte as another athlete, Cincinnati Bengal Chris Henry, was reported injured from an accident following a domestic incident.

Cincinnati wide receiver Chris Henry fell from a pickup truck Wednesday after a domestic dispute with his fiancée, resulting in what is being listed as "life-threatening injuries". CNN.com reports that the 26-year-old Henry climbed into the bed of the vehicle as the unnamed woman was driving away after a fight. According to a statement by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, Henry fell out of the truck approximately a half mile away, and was listed in critical condition at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He died of those injuries earlier this morning.

Will this turn into another feeding frenzy with the media?

The Tiger Woods scandal started out as a relatively minor accident involving a single vehicle which was later revealed to have occurred immediately after a domestic incident with his wife, Elin Nordegren. The story quickly escalated from rumors of a single affair to a list of beauties that is now in double-digits. Tiger was treated and released from the hospital but is unlikely to recover as quickly from the more serious injuries to his all-American image. The incident also hurt his wallet as major advertisers are pulling their ads in light of the negative press.

Chris Henry played for Belle Chase High School, where he was named the Offensive Player of the Year for the New Orleans area. He went on to play for two seasons for West Virginia where he averaged more than 20 yards per catch, only the third player in school history to do so. Henry started in eight games this season for the Bengals before being put on the injured list for a forearm injury suffered during a game against Baltimore.

Bengals officials commented on the incident and asked for prayers for Chris Henry, who was on life support yesterday. The 6'4", 200-pound Henry had been with the Bengals for five seasons, but on the injured reserve list since early November due to a dislocated forearm. Henry, whose family lives in Cincinnati, had been spending time in Charlotte where his fiancée's family is. The couple had planned the wedding for March 2010.
