Benjamin Moore Paint: Colors that Go from Little Boy to Little Man
Paint Colors that Transition Easily from One Age Group to Another
After you have decided what you want to do in the room, head to your local Ace Hardware, True Value Hardware, or paint specialty store. There These are the places you will find Benjamin Moore Paints. There is also a store locator on the Benjamin Moore website. The paint generally sells for around 24.00 per can. Most of these stores also have great displays in the store, with swatches of the most popular colors. Grab a few, take them home, and try them on!
If you are having trouble deciding on a theme, let me give you a few ideas. One of the things I have discovered is that after a just a few short years, he will be ready for a change. When I am planning a themed room, I try to keep in mind that this may only be for two or three years and plan something that will transition easily.
A Nautilus theme, or a Train theme, are good examples of themes that can grow with your boy. For example if he is very young, Thomas the Train will probably please him, and it is easy to go from Thomas to real Train Engines with little difficulty. I will explain below how to make a transition from one age to another. Plan a few minutes to take a peek online at the Benjamin Moore Virtual Color Fan on the Benjamin Moore Paints website. You can substitute your color choices for mine
THOMAS THE TRAIN
Because Thomas the Train's primary color is blue, I would choose Benjamin Moore Caribbean Coast for the wall colors. I would then use Benjamin Moore Bonfire Red as an accent color, on the bed the shelves, a chair or any furniture you would like to bring into play in the room. Thomas the Train uses all of the primary colors to teach and stimulate young minds, so I would paint the dresser knobs Benjamin Moore Sparkling Sun and Lucky Charm Green. Benjamin Moore offers paint samples of most colors and this is what I would suggest using for the small paint jobs, as it will be much more economical.
You can finish this all off with bedding and window dressings from Thomas the Train. There are many things available such as lamps and throw rugs you can use as accent pieces. If the room is very small, I would not over-do the accent colors, but if the room is a large room go for it.
FROM THOMAS THE TRAIN TO BIG LITTLE MAN
When your little guy is "older" he will be ready for something different. The first thing you need to do is get rid of the Thomas the Train stuff! Don't toss it out though; give it to another little boy to enjoy.
After removing all of the furniture you will the paint over the Benjamin Moore Caribbean Coast, using this as your base color, with a method that is called "Ragging". The Benjamin Moore website explains in great detail what supplies you will need and how to rag paint your walls.
For this treatment, I would suggest using a color such as Benjamin Moore Cinnamon as the top color. This is the color you will rag off. I would also suggest using the same paint method and rag the Benjamin Moore Cinnamon over the other colors you have used on the furniture. The ragging method will give the walls and furniture a look of worn leather and will be perfect for the transition to that of an older boy's room. You can use this background for many decors. It can take on a Real Train theme; it can have a Western look for a little cowboy, or even a Sports décor.
Many commercial "heroes" use the same colors as base colors. Spiderman is Red and Blue, and Star wars colors are primarily Blue,Black, Red and Orange. You can use these ideas to decide the color you "rag" over the Benjamin Moore Caribbean Coast base color.
This is very easy to do and will give the room an entirely different look. Good Luck!
I have several articles that address room painting and color choice. This will take you to color choices for your living room and kitchen.
