Norway in its most original state is Bryggen. Translated into English this literally means "The Warf". Originally founded in 1070 this location of the city holds the title of the eldest part. Built directly onto the water this was a major trading port all throughout history. Traditionally, Norwegian homes are built out of wood, and this caused many fires in this particular area. Most of the buildings still standing are from the 15th Century. In 1995 a disastrous fire hit the area and destroyed many homes and businesses. They created a museum of artifacts in the place of these buildings. With an old time feel this is an area that allows you to walk out of the present and into the past.
